CNWL champion sexual health awareness at Afro Hair and Beauty event

4 June 2025

The CLASH Sexual Health Promotion Team proudly marked its seventh consecutive year at Afro Hair & Beauty Live 2025, Europe’s largest hair, beauty, and lifestyle showcase for Black and mixed-heritage women.

The event, held under the empowering theme “Own Your Confidence – Empower Your Beauty – Embrace Your Uniqueness”, provided a vital platform for engaging with Black African, Black Caribbean, and other minoritised communities about sexual and reproductive health.

Promoting health through dialogue and access

CLASH’s ongoing mission is to reduce health inequalities and empower individuals to take charge of their sexual and reproductive wellbeing.

Seminar: "Let’s Talk About Sex"

CLASH hosted a one-hour seminar titled “Let’s Talk About Sex – No Question is a Silly Question”. Though attended by a small group of five individuals, the session fostered meaningful, stigma-free conversation and provided key learnings on how to boost engagement in future editions.

On the Ground: Engagement and Testing

CLASH operated two interactive stalls throughout the day:

  • Engagement & Education: Offered free condoms, lube, sexual health resources, myth-busting demos, and support with appointment booking and home testing kits. The “Celebrating Black Scientists, Healthcare Workers, and Activists in HIV” board was a visual highlight.

  • Clinic in a Box: Provided confidential, same-day testing for STIs, HIV, hepatitis B & C, and pregnancy.

In total, 20 individuals were screened, with over 100 people engaging across both stalls.

Positive feedback and team acknowledgement

19 attendees submitted feedback cards, with overwhelmingly positive responses highlighting the team’s friendly approach, clear communication, and accessible services.

Special recognition goes to Chantel Sealey, CLASH’s lead for Black African, Black Caribbean, and Ethnic Minority communities, for her exceptional coordination and planning. Gratitude also extends to team members Anne-Marie Salmon, Jasmine Pinnock, and Allison Morgan, whose energy and expertise made the day a standout success.

Well done Team CLASH! — they will be back next year, stronger than ever.
