CNWL at Pride in Surrey: Promoting Sexual Health with Pride

9 September 2025

CNWL Sexual Health was proud to be part of Pride in Surrey this past Saturday in Guildford, celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community while raising awareness of our services across the wider Surrey population.

Despite the windy conditions, our stall stood strong throughout the day, welcoming hundreds of Pride-goers from 8:30am until 5pm. The Surrey Outreach team — Ian Cole, Natalie Cameron, and Ibrahim Suleiman — led the day with great energy, supported by colleagues Ango Fada and Jillian Doran (Safeguarding), and Dr Torhsie Annan.

Raising awareness of free testing

A key focus was highlighting that free home STI testing kits are available — something many attendees were still unaware of. The event gave us a chance to have open, stigma-free conversations about sexual health and encourage more people to take charge of their wellbeing.

Engaging the community

Our popular “Spin the Wheel” game once again proved a fantastic icebreaker. For some, approaching a sexual health stall can feel daunting — but by offering a fun, interactive activity, we created a welcoming space to start important conversations. Everyone who took part received one of our service cards, along with a small prize, ensuring they left with both knowledge and a reminder of how to access our services.

Recognition and support

We were also pleased to welcome Guildford MP Zoe Franklin to our stall, who showed her support not only for Pride in Surrey but also for the ongoing work of our sexual health team in the community.

Closing the day

As the evening performances drew the crowds towards the stage, the wind finally began to challenge our gazebo — making pack-down time a memorable experience! But the day itself was a success, with countless conversations, new connections, and strengthened visibility for sexual health in Surrey.
